In the Community

Corporate Social Responsibility

Knightsbridge believes that social and environmental responsibility is akin to running a marathon: it must sustain its participation in these initiatives over time. A single investment - no matter how large - belies the importance of ongoing contributions and employee support and involvement.

Our Charitable Policy

Knightsbridge's charitable strategy is comprised of three key priorities that help support the communities in which we operate;

1) Supporting the leadership development of young Canadians

Our national charitable partner is Junior Achievement (JA) of Canada, which educates young Canadians on leadership, entrepreneurial and workforce readiness skills so they can achieve their highest potential as citizens of our global community. Across Canada, Junior Achievement reaches over 250,000 students annually with 15,000 dedicated business volunteers in over 400 communities delivering a suite of 9 curriculum-matched programs. Knightsbridge provides financial support through our title sponsorship of the Canadian Business Hall of Fame, JA's most significant fundraising initiative, in addition to encouraging employees to volunteer to teach JA courses in schools.

2) Encouraging and supporting our employee's volunteer efforts

Knightsbridge encourages employees to actively support and volunteer in their community. Our 250 employees volunteer and provide financial assistance to more than 175 non-profit organizations across Canada. Our participation in the United Way's corporate campaign allows employees to donate to those causes and organizations most relevant to them. In 2010, our employees raised over $43,000. In addition, we have established a Charitable Committee that reviews funding applications from organizations that our employees are actively involved in. To encourage volunteerism, Knightsbridge provides employees with two paid "Community Service Days" per year, and encourages employees to use the company's facilities for meetings. Knightsbridge employees serve on more than 32, primarily, non-profit boards. The company encourages board service by helping individuals attain board positions and providing financial support to the organization based on meeting certain criteria and requirements.

3) Supporting the charitable efforts of our major customers

Knightsbridge supports the charitable efforts of our major customers, where appropriate and consistent with our charitable policy.

Our Environmental Policy

Knightsbridge is committed to making changes to reduce our carbon footprint and have made several changes that will contribute to healthy communities such as:

  1. We have developed a Knowledge Centre to warehouse all sales and marketing materials electronically, and have implemented a print-on-demand process for almost all sales and marketing materials reducing use, storage and shipping of paper.
  2. We are using technology to reduce the use of paper, including the use of Xerox printers to allow employees to PDF, email or copy to remote printers, as well as increasing the use of WebEx and Adobe Pro technology to reduce presentation printouts and travel.
  3. An integrated CRM/Financial system has reduced the need for paper timesheets, expense reports and three-form copy invoices and has dramatically decreased the use of paper in our processes.
  4. Our Career Transition Portal has resulted in over $200K in printing cost savings through reducing the number of binders provided to individuals in the program, with the added benefit of the information on the portal being fresh and current.
  5. We have installed water coolers in all our offices, eliminating the use of PET bottles.
